Pledge to Support Construction of Bridge to Plantation Island at 52nd Street in Garden City

The Greenbelt along the Boise River offers a safe, scenic pathway with few gaps and detours. Unfortunately, there is a significant gap on the south side of the river between 52nd Street and Remington, which forces users onto a half-mile detour through a neighborhood that includes a mix of residences and businesses, with motorized traffic and no sidewalks or pathways.

To address this issue, FACTS, Garden City, and Ada County have come together to secure a $2 million federal grant to construct a new pedestrian bridge at 52nd Street. This bridge will establish a direct connection to the pathways on Plantation Island. We need your help raising $155,000 to match the federal grant.

The project aims to enhance safety, efficiency, connectivity, and travel times for users on both sides of the river. It will also provide a safe and scenic route to various public facilities, including the new Park and Soccer Stadium at Expo, Hawks Stadium, the Fairgrounds, and Garden City Hall and Library.

HOW FACTS IS PARTICIPATING:  The FACTS Board of Directors established a special trust fund into which all donations to FACTS for this project will be deposited.  The trust fund prohibits any expenditures from that fund except for the completion of the Bridge Project.

HOW MUCH MUST BE RAISED:  The FACTS Board of Directors has committed to raising $110,000 in matching funds toward this Bridge Project.  As of January 2, 2023, other agencies and sponsors have committed funds to this Bridge Project:

  • Garden City:  $30,000
  • Treasure Valley Clean Cities Coalition:  $10,000

We Now Need Your Help to raise $110,000 to provide the match to a $1.9 million Federal Grant to construct the bridge.

WHAT ARE THE DONOR BENEFITS:  You will become a contributor to a much-needed project that will benefit all users of the Greenbelt.  The Greenbelt has been a source of civic pride and accomplishment for 35 years. FACTS is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation.  Your donation will qualify as an income tax deduction.

The resolution about the bridge fund by the FACTS Board can be found online.
