Why we need a bridge between the Garden City Greenbelt and Plantation Island at 52nd Street

Above, users exit the Greenbelt and take a 1/2 mile detour on surface streets between 52nd Street in Garden City and the Ada County section of Greenbelt next to the new Park at Expo.
The picture above illustrates the dangers of the current detour in Garden City.
The new bridge connecting to the existing trails on Plantation Island will begin just to the right of the pathway shown in the picture above.

Hazards along the 52nd Street detour:

  • There are no sidewalks or bike lanes.
  • Users share the road with cars and trucks
  • Users must navigate multiple driveways and access roads serving homes, subdivisions, and industrial businesses.
  • The new Park at Expo and Boise Athletic Club soccer stadium, adjacent to 52nd Street, will generate much more vehicular, bike and pedestrian traffic in this area. We also expect to see more housing development drawn to all of the new amenities.
