Why we need a bridge between the Garden City Greenbelt and Plantation Island at 52nd Street

There is currently a 1/2 mile detour on surface streets in the Boise River Greenbelt between 52nd Street in Garden City and the Ada County section of Greenbelt next to the new Park at Expo.
The Greenbelt in Garden City takes a half-mile detour along surface streets at 52nd Street.  The new bridge connecting to the existing trails on Plantation Island will begin just to the right of the pathway shown in the picture above.

 

The picture above shows the dangerous nature of the current detour in Garden City.

 

Hazards along the 52nd Street detour:

  • There are no sidewalks or bike lanes.
  • Users share the road with cars and trucks
  • Users must navigate multiple driveways serving homes, subdivisions, and industrial businesses.
