52nd Street Detour in Garden City
Above is the current 1/2 mile Greenbelt detour at 52nd Street in Garden City.

The Greenbelt along the Boise River offers a safe, scenic pathway with few interruptions or detours. Unfortunately, there is a significant gap on the south side of the river between 52nd Street and Remington in Garden City, forcing users to take a half-mile detour through a neighborhood that includes a mix of residences and businesses, with motorized traffic and no sidewalks or pathways.

The new 52nd Street Bridge on the Garden City side of the Boise River will be similar to the one pictured above that connects Plantation Island and the Boise Greenbelt on the North side of the river.

Recently, FACTS, Garden City, and Ada County worked together to secure a $2,181,000 grant from COMPASS to construct a pedestrian bridge between the Greenbelt at 52nd Street and the existing Green Belt pathways on Plantation Island.  We need your help raising $125,000 in local matching funds to design and build the bridge.

The map above shows the existing bridges and pathways on Plantation Island, as well as the new bridge (red arrow) from the Garden City Greenbelt to the Island’s pathways.

The project aims to enhance safety, efficiency, connectivity, and travel times for users on both sides of the river. It will provide travelers with a safe, scenic route to and from various public facilities, including the new Park at Expo and the adjacent Athletic Club Soccer Stadium, Hawks Stadium, the Fairgrounds, and Garden City Hall and Library.

You can make a pledge to the Bridge the Gap fund here.

HOW FACTS IS PARTICIPATING:  The FACTS Board of Directors established a special trust fund into which all donations in support of the bridge will be deposited.  The trust fund prohibits any expenditures from that fund except for the completion of the Bridge Project.

HOW MUCH MUST BE RAISED:  FACTS agreed with Ada County to raise local matching funds of  $125,000 in two payments. The first payment of $17,710 will match bridge design funding and is due no later than August 1, 2026. The second payment of $112,290 will match bridge construction funding and is due by August 1, 2027.  We need YOUR help to raise the match funding and bridge the gap!

WHAT ARE THE DONOR BENEFITS:  You will become a contributor to a much-needed project that will benefit all users of the Greenbelt.  The Greenbelt has been a source of civic pride and accomplishment for 35 years. Because FACTS is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation, your donation will qualify as an income tax deduction. The FACTS Board’s resolution on the bridge fund is available here.
